Folkestone: July 24th

On Wednesday Jonathan drove us to the historic city of Canterbury. We walked through the town centre to the Old Weaver’s House, one of the oldest houses in Canterbury which stands next to the River Stour. Here we took a guided boat tour along the river. Our guide was very informative and told us lots of stories about the sights along the river, such as the Blackfriars Abbey, the old flour mill and the ducking stool, a medieval instrument of torture.

El miércoles Jonathan nos llevaron a la histórica ciudad de Canterbury. Caminamos por el centro de la ciudad a la vieja Casa de Tejedor, una de las casas más antiguas de Canterbury, que está al lado del río Stour. Aquí tomamos un tour guiado en barco por el río. Nuestro guía era muy informativo y nos contó muchas historias sobre los lugares de interés turístico a lo largo del río, como la Abadía de Blackfriars, el antiguo molino de harina y el taburete del río, una forma medieval de tortura. After this we went to the West Gate Towers museum situated inside the city wall. Here the students made some brass rubbings and played with the ancient soldiers helmets before climbing to the top of the tower from where we could see the whole of Canterbury.

Después de esto fuimos al museo de la Puerta del Torre Oeste situado en el interior de la muralla. Aquí los alumnos realizaron copias de los calcos de latón y jugaron con los antiguos cascos de soldados antes de subir a la cima de la torre de donde podemos ver a toda la ciudad de Canterbury.

Later we walked back through the busy city centre to see the very ornate Christ Church Gate, which stands at the entrance to the cathedral, the famous destination of thousands of pilgrims who have travelled here throughout the centuries since the year 1170AD.
Next we had some free time to go shopping before getting into the minibus again and going home via the scenic route. Jonathan drove us down to the coast where we were able to see the White Cliffs of Dover.

Luego caminamos a través del centro de la ciudad para ver la puerta ornamentada de la Iglesia de Cristo, que está situada en la entrada de la catedral, el famoso destino de miles de peregrinos que han viajado a lo largo de los siglos desde el año 1170AD. Despues tuvimos algo de tiempo libre para ir de compras antes de entrar en el minibús de nuevo y volver a casa a través de la ruta escénica. Jonathan nos llevó por la costa donde pudimos ver a los Acantilados Blancos de Dover.

Folkestone: July 23rd




We’ve had a full schedule this week with lots of energetic activities. On Monday afternoon we went to the park to run around and do some sports, then on Tuesday we had a lesson in street dance from Casey.
Hemos tenido un programa muy completo esta semana con muchas actividades energéticas. El lunes por la tarde fuimos al parque a correr y hacer deportes, a continuación, el martes tuvimos una clase de danza de la calle con Casey.

















Nobody was very enthusiastic about the idea of dancing to begin with, except of course our ballerina Marie, but by the time we had finished the warm-up exercises everybody was ready to give it a chance. Casey taught the routine in several parts to give the students the chance to practice and memorise each part before adding the next piece. By the end of the day they had all learned the routine and danced really well!














Nadie estaba muy entusiasmada con el idea de bailar para empezar, excepto, por supuesto, nuestra bailarina Marie, pero por el momento en que había terminado los ejercicios de calentamiento, todo el mundo estaba listo para darle una oportunidad. Casey enseñó la rutina dividido en varias partes para dar a los estudiantes la oportunidad de practicar y assimilar cada una de las partes antes de añadir la siguiente pieza. Al final del día todos habían aprendido la rutina y bailaron estupendamente!

Tuesday evening was also very exciting as we took a trip to see the Chinese State Circus. The performers were all excellent acrobats, who gave us amazing demonstrations of their talents. The acts included plate spinners, contortionists, Shaolin Kung Fu experts, and of course Chinese dragons.







































Martes por la noche también fue muy emocionante ya que tuvieron un viaje para ver el Circo Estatal Chino. Los intérpretes eran todos excelentes acróbatas, que nos dio muestras de su increíble talento. Los actos incluyeron placa hiladores, contorsionistas, Shaolin Kung Fu expertos y, por supuesto, los dragones chinos.

Folkestone: The weekend!!

El fin de semana!

Friday finished with a preliminary performance of the song the students have been learning this week. Everyone took a part, many had no previous experience of playing musical instruments, but with practice and Rikki’s patient guidance each discovered a new hidden talent.

Viernes terminó con una primera actuación de la canción que los alumnos han aprendido esta semana. Todo el mundo participaba, muchos no tenían experiencia previa de tocar instrumentos musicales, pero con la practica y el ayudo de Rikki cada uno descubrió un nuevo talento escondido.

On Saturday we had an early start, at 8am we boarded the minibus and went to Brighton. After a vegetarian breakfast we set off through the North Lanes area and went towards the famous Brighton Pavillion. We had a walk around the gardens of this beautiful building then continued on to see some street graffiti art. We found a small market selling locally produced food where we found the Chilli Pepper Pete stall, which sold lots of spicy sauces. Pablo couldn’t resist persuading Ana to try the Dragon’s Blood, the hottest sauce on sale, and she soon regretted taking the chilli challenge!!

El sábado tuvimos un comienzo temprano, a las 8h abordamos el microbús y salimos a Brighton. Después de un desayuno vegetariano anduvimos a través de las North Lanes y hacia el famoso Pabellón de Brighton. Dimos un paseo por los jardines de este hermoso edificio y despúes fuimos para ver algo de arte graffiti de la calle. Encontramos un pequeño mercado de venta de alimentos de producción local donde encontramos el puesto de Chilli Pepper Pete, que tenia varias salsas picantes en venta. Pablo no pudo resistir de persuadir a Ana que prueba la Sangre de Dragon, la salsa más picante de la venta, y ella no llevó mucho tiempo en arrepentirse de haber tomabo el reto de chile!

Walking through the streets of Brighton we found our street entertainment in the form of the XXX theatre group. Their first act had a court jester performing tricks for the king and his daughter, but they were not impressed and called for a volunteer to audition as the jester’s replacement. Our own “Super Viktor” stood up and competed against the jester and won!

Caminando por las calles de Brighton, encontramos nuestra calle en forma de entretenimiento de la XXX grupo de teatro. Su primer acto había un bufón que realizó trucos para el rey y su hija, pero no les impresionó a ellos y el rey pidió un voluntario para hacer una audición como el bufón nuevo. Nuestra propia "Super Viktor" se puso de pie y compitió contra al bufón y le ganó!
We walked on through to a small park where Super Viktor the jester was called on once more to take part in act 2 where a dashing knight jousted with the king to marry the princess. The king looked for a second contestant for the jousting and found Eulali was willing to rise to the challenge!

Caminamos a través de un pequeño parque, donde el bufón Super Víktor fue llamado de nuevo a tomar parte en el acto 2, cuando un apuesto caballero jousted con el rey a contraer matrimonio con la princesa. El rey buscó un segundo contendiente para el enfrentamiento y se encontró que Eulali estaba dispuesto a enfrentarse al desafío!

Later we walked down to the seafront and along the pier to the amusement park where the students had some free time to enjoy the fun of the fair. They braved the haunted house, rode the Twister, raced the dodgems and tried to ride the mechanical bull. We left the fun fair and walked along the seafront to find a spot on the beach for lunch. After this we went back to the North Lanes to do some shopping before getting back into the minibus and going home.

Luego caminamos hacia el mar y a lo largo del muelle hasta el parque de diversiones en el que los alumnos tenían algo de tiempo libre para disfrutar de toda la diversión de la feria. Ellos se enfrentaron a la casa embrujada, montaron el Twister, corrieron los coches de choque y trató de montar el toro mechánico. Nos fuimos de la feria y caminamos a lo largo del paseo maritimo para encontrar un lugar en la playa para el almuerzo. Después de esto fuimos de nuevo a los North Lanes para hacer compras antes de regresar en el minibús y volver a casa.

Sunday was also full of activity as the group got together to celebrate Marie’s 16th birthday. They arrived at the Folkestone Sports Centre at midday and played badminton, volleyball and basketball. After burning off all that energy they enjoyed Marie’s birthday cake and then went home to rest before starting lessons again on Monday morning.Domingo también estuvo llena de actividad como el grupo se reunieron para celebrar el 16 º cumpleaños de Marie. Llegaron en el Centro Deportivo Folkestone al mediodía y jugaron el bádminton, voleibol y baloncesto. Después de quemarse algo de energia todos gozaron del pastel de cumpleaños de Marie y luego volvieron a casa para descansar antes de comenzar las lecciones de nuevo el lunes por la mañana.
